It’s going to end back where it started. The fifth and final season of Netflix’s You is officially underway and a first look photo finds Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, back creeping around the streets of New York.

The photo released on social media shows Penn as Joe dressed in a black coat, black trousers, and a plum polo shirt. He looks very reminiscent of season 1 Joe when we all thought he was just a bookstore clerk with a melodious voice. The series so far has taken Joe to California and London, but it’s very full circle for the final season of the show to take place in New York.

In season 4 Joe was his most evil self revealing a mental disorder that caused him to disassociate. In the end, Joe and his new love Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), a London art dealer from a powerful family, move to New York to get his old life back including the son he had with Love (Victoria Pedretti).

There are many loose ends from Joe’s past, but before the series ends new faces will be joining the final season of You that could be catalyst in taking Joe down. Madeline Brewer will play Bronte, “an enigmatic free-spirited playwright” who works at Joe’s new bookstore. Anna Camp will have a dual role playing twin sisters-in-law to Joe, Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, and Griffin Matthews will play Teddy Lockwood, the “snarky, yet loyal brother-in-law.”

The fifth and final season was expected for a 2024 release, but with Hollywood getting back into the swing of things following the strikes of last year the series finale could come in 2025.

How do you think Joe’s story will end? Share your theories in the comments.
