A New Season of ‘Black Mirror’ Is Coming in 2025 and Revisiting A Classic Episode

It may seem far away but it’s confirmed that the beloved Charlie Brooker-created Sci-fi series Black Mirror is returning for a seventh season in 2025. The announcement came on Thursday, March 14 when Netflix dropped the news on social media.

Watching the teaser Black Mirror fans, myself included, picked up a familiar sound. It was the “USS Callister” theme music, a very popular episode from 2017, confirming that episode would be revisited. It’s one of my favorite episodes in that perfect season so I’m excited.

“USS Callister” is the first episode in season four and follows Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons) who leads a boring life as an overlooked Chief Technical Officer at Callister Inc. New employee to the company Nanette Cole (Cristin Milioti) is an admirer of Daly’s work and piques interest in his obsession with Space Fleet, a Star Trek type TV show. Unfortunately for Cole, she becomes the latest employee whose consciousness is digitally replicated and trapped inside a simulation of Space Fleet to be at the mercy of Daly’s controlling alter ego Captain Daly. Jimmi Simpson, Michaela Coel, Billy Magnussen, Milanka Brooks, Osy Ikhile, and Paul G. Raymond make up the ensemble cast with Aaron Paul having a voice cameo and Kirsten Dunst appearing with a small unspoken role walking through the deep background. The “USS Callister” episode ended pretty definitively, and one of the best case scenario endings, so I’m curious to see where and when the story picks up.

Black Mirror first premiered in 2011 on the British Network Channel 4 before moving to Netflix for season three in 2016. It has gone on to win six Primetime Emmys and features top talent like Daniel Kaluuya, Hayley Atwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wyatt Russell, Jon Hamm, Georgina Campbell, Miley Cyrus, Annie Murphy, and Anthony Mackie.
