On Screen TV Couples Whose Chemistry Make You Feral

I’ll start by saying I loved everything about the concept of TGIT (Thank God it’s Thursday). Back in 2014, Shonda Rhimes’ ShondaLand production company had Thursdays on lock with her dramas Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder on back-to-back taking over prime-time TV. This lasted until 2018 when Scandal had its series finale. Back then I only watched How To Get Away With Murder and had zero desire to watch Grey’s or Scandal but as an avid pop culture consumer I was fully aware of the general plots of each series.

Recently there has been an influx of social media conversations, mainly on Twitter (aka X) about the chemistry between Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn. On Scandal, Washington played badass Washington, D.C. fixer Olivia Pope who had a tumultuous love affair with President Fitzgerald ‘Fitz’ Grant throughout the series.

The chemistry between the pair sent viewers into an absolute feral frenzy whenever they would interact and the thirst was real. The Twitter conservations got me intrigued enough to start binging Scandal (I’m on season 3) to see the chemistry for myself. It’s been just a bunch of yelling so far, but the idea of Olivia and Fitz made me ponder the on-screen TV couples whose chemistry got me feeling some type of way. Below are my on-screen pairings. Let the thirst commence.

Two words: CAPTAIN HOOK

Captain Hook and Emma Swan
Once Upon A Time followed residents in the small town of Storybrooke, Maine who were actually fairy tale characters initially trapped there under a curse by the Evil Queen Regina (Lana Parrilla). I didn’t watch Once Upon A Time when it aired which is strange given how much I love Disney, but I did get into the show thanks to Sebastian Stan. I had a crush on him so I wanted to watch all of his projects that were available to stream. One of those projects was Once Upon A Time. I came into the show for him and ended up staying and becoming obsessed because of “Captain Swan.”

Jennifer Morrison played Emma Swan, the daughter of Prince Charming and Snow White, and had a romantic relationship with Killian Jones aka Captain Hook played by Colin O’Donoghue. Colin joined the show in season 2 and with the first interaction between Hook and Emma EYE was hooked and immediately invested. It helps that Hook is double handsome and charming and Jennifer is so beautiful and was able to effortlessly go toe to toe with Hook. Every scene with them, especially when Hook was courting Emma, would make me blush and have me rewind their scenes a few dozen times. That scene of them in the hospital makes me [redacted].

Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate
Their love has been compared to when a dog and cat fall in love and no greater comparison can describe Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation. Chris Pratt played the lovable buffoon Andy while Aubrey Plaza played the deadpan and sarcastic April who worked at the Parks and Rec department in Pawnee, Indiana.

The pair’s love affair started in the middle of season 2 in the “Hunting Trip” episode. It was the first time April and Andy were paired together alone and at that moment viewers knew their love story was epic. They had a nature chemistry that balanced each other out from role-playing as Burt Macklin and Janet Snakehole, sharing the same fork while eating chili out of a Frisbee, and supporting each other’s wildest desires. I LOVE me some April and Andy and would narrow in on them in the background any time they weren’t the immediate focus. Some of their most feral moments are there.

Rio and Beth Boland
Let’s keep it real. The main reason we watched NBC’s gone too soon series Good Girls was because of Rio!

Good Girls ran from 2018-2021 and followed three suburban moms, Beth (Christina Hendricks), her sister Annie (Mae Whitman), and Beth’s best friend Ruby (Retta), in desperate need of cash who decide to rob a grocery store. Robbing the store leads to Beth, Annie, and Ruby being indebted to a drug dealer named Rio (Manny Montana) who unintentionally begins a business relationship with the girls with them cleaning his cash.

UPDATE - New season coming March 4! Rio has a message from the set of Good Girls | Lipstick Alley

Beth and Rio’s sexual tension reached peaked heights whenever he called her “Elizabeth,” pushed her hair out her face, and made threatening remarks somehow seem so sexy. I’d let him put drugs wherever he wanted. I’ll never forgive NBC for canceling this show just when we were about to have Rio and Beth be the ultimate drug-dealing pair.

Shawn Hunter and Angela Moore
Cory and Topanga this, Corey and Topanga that. Yes, we were programmed to think the Boy Meets World It couple was Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel), and while they had their cute moments those of us who grew up and got taste when revisiting the show know it’s all about Shawn (Rider Strong) and Angela (Trina McGee).

Girl Meets World - Seashell Poets (Shawn/Angela) #10: “I've never seen him as happy as when he is in the company of your daughter.” – Mr. Feeny - Fan Forum

Trina joined the Boy Meets World cast in season 5. At first, she was a background actor but soon became the object of Shawn’s affection later that season. Shawn was an infamous playboy who never stayed with a girl for more than two weeks then he met Angela and everything changed. Seeing Shawn so submissive and soft when it came to Angela was very sexy not to mention how hot of a couple they were together. The fact that they weren’t endgame is criminal. Criminal!

Girl Meets World - Seashell Poets (Shawn/Angela) #9: Because they used to just be able to sit together. They didn't even have to talk. They'd just be with each other. - Page
