‘Scream Queens’ Has The Best Thanksgiving Episode No One Hardly Talks About

Thanksgiving is the forgotten holiday because let’s face it, right after Spooky Season people are ready to deck the halls but I love Thanksgiving. I enjoy all the delicious, hearty food and extra special quality time with family yet when it comes to TV shows it can be a different story during the holiday.

When entertainment writers break down Thanksgiving-themed episodes from TV shows I don’t see nearly enough writing about Scream Queens so I’m going to.

The first season of Scream Queens premiered back in 2015. Created by Ian Brennan, Brad Falchuk, and Ryan Murphy (who between them have collaborated on shows like Glee, American Horror Story, and Pose), Scream Queens centered on a masked serial killer terrorizing a sorority and those associated with them until the big reveal in the season one finale. Scream Queens was truly a show that you had to be there to experience. It’s camp, the jokes aren’t for those easily offended, and it’s honestly one of my favorite shows.

One thing the first season of Scream Queens had, among other things, is an outstanding and hilarious ensemble cast that played their characters SO well. Emma Roberts, Skyler Samuels, Keke Palmer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Billie Lourd, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Glen Powell, Niecy Nash, Oliver Hudson, Diego Boneta, Nasim Pedrad, Lucien Laviscount, and Nick Jonas were the ensemble cast.

There are countless quotable moments from the show and season one was elite, but the Thanksgiving episode is really good. Episode 9, simply titled “Thanksgiving” follows the characters during the holiday. The Red Devil killer has taken many victims at this point but the main characters initially separate to celebrate the holiday with family.

Chanel #3 (Lourd) goes home to her family eating TV dinners while watching football. Chanel (Roberts) heads to the Hamptons with Chad (Powell) and his outrageous family. Grace (Gardner) and Zayday (Palmer) stay at the Kappa House with Dean Munsch (Curtis) to have an “orphans” Thanksgiving and others eventually end up at the house like Grace’s dad Wes (Hudson), Pete (Boneta), and Chanel #5 (Breslin).

The rest of the episode goes back and forth between The Radwells – Chad’s family – and the Kappa House. At Kappa House the group debates who they think the Red Devil is and at The Radwells, Hester (Michele) crashes and the evening goes off the walls from there leading to an unhinged game of Pictionary. It’s one of the best moments in TV history if you ask me. By the end of the episode, another victim is claimed.

I love this episode because it combines all the elements of Thanksgiving like spending time with family, eating a great dinner, and playing games even if it ends in murder. There has and will never be a show quite like Scream Queens.
