‘Sex Education’ Comes To An End With Its Fourth and Final Season in September

It’s time to get educated on sex one last time. Earlier this year in May many cast members of Netflix’s Sex Education announced they were departing the series. Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds, and Patricia Allison who played Olivia, Lily, and Ola revealed they would not return for season 4, and most importantly to me, two major main characters – Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa, who played Maeve and Eric, shared season 4 would be their last season. Now it seems the upcoming season will be the final one for everyone.

Sex Education creator Laurie Nunn told Tudum that during the process of creating season 4, she felt the stories were coming to an end saying, “The characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about it. I felt happy for them, and I felt like I’ve said everything that I want to say with these characters at this time.” The show follows teen Otis (Asa Butterfield) and his sex therapist mother Jean (Gillian Anderson) and how her profession rubbed off on her son as he started an underground business at Moordale High helping the teens around him with their sexual problems.

The new season picks up a few months after the events of season 3 with Moordale Secondary students starting at a new school called Cavendish College and Maeve studying in America. Along with Butterfield, Gatwa, and Mackey, Aimee Lou Wood, Dua Saleh, Connor Swindells, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro, Mimi Keene, Kedar Williams-Stirling, George Robinson, and Chinenye Ezeudu are slated to return with Anthony Lexa, Felix Mufti, Alexandra James, Thaddea Graham, and Dan Levy as some of the new faces

The fourth and final season of Sex Education comes to Netflix on September 21, 2023.
