The ‘Barbie’ Main Trailer Takes Barbie’s Existential Crisis To The Real World

She’s everything and we’re the folks who will be flooding theaters in July to see “Barbie” come to life in a major way.

Ever since Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were revealed to be playing Barbie and Ken in a live-action film about the beloved Mattel doll I knew I would be in for a treat. With each first look and teaser, I became more and more excited. Now the main trailer for “Barbie” is out and I’m counting down the days until I can watch this movie on the big screen.

From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig, Robbie perfectly stars in the titular role of Barbie with Gosling as her Ken. A synopsis for “Barbie” reads “To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.” In the main trailer which dropped on Thursday, May 25, Barbie begins to question her existence as her feet flatten, her showers get cold, and her idealistic days in Barbie Land aren’t as happy as they used to be. Barbie and Ken travel to the real world for answers and the real adventure begins.

America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Emerald Fennell, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa and Helen Mirren make up the stellar ensemble cast.

“Barbie the Album” lineup was also announced today. The soundtrack will include music from Ava Max, Charlie XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, RYAN GOSLING, and more. The album comes out the same day the film comes to theaters.

“Barbie” comes to theaters on Friday, July 21, 2023.
