Mike Flanagan is shaping himself up to be the king of Netflix horror and with his past track record (“Gerald’s Game,” The Haunting of Hill HouseThe Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass) he sure has the credentials to back it up. Flanagan is adding a new horror project to his roster of Netflix hits and people are already buzzing about it.

The first look at The Midnight Club was released today as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week which will reveal sneak peeks at upcoming content for the streaming service. Based on the 1994 young adult horror book by Christopher Pike, The Midnight Club follows a group of terminally ill patients at Brightcliffe Hospice who meet each night to tell scary stories and seek out signs of the paranormal.

In the teaser trailer, each cast member is showcased as they recite “To those before. To those after. To us now. And to those beyond. Seen or unseen. Here but not here,” and ends with them making a toast with a grim reaper appearing. I’m hoping this show will give Are You Afraid of The Dark vibes but with more scary twists. I absolutely loved Are You Afraid of The Dark growing up, Goosebumps, and all those type of horror anthology shows, so I’m down for this type of series.

Samantha Sloyan, Zach Gilford, Igby Rigney, Heather Langenkamp, William Chris Sumpter, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, Matt Biedel, Aya Furukawa, Yuki Morita, and Ranjit Samra are all slated to appear in at least one episode of the Flanagan and Leah Fong created show.

The Midnight Club comes to Netflix right in time for Spooky Season 2022 on Friday, October 7.
