GGB’s 25 Days of Christmas Watch List: Nothing Like the Holidays

Each year you get to celebrate the holiday season with your family is a blessing no matter how hectic it can get because you never know what the year ahead will bring. That’s sort of the premise for the Alfredo Rodriguez de Villa directed film “Nothing Like the Holidays.”

On this day back in 2008 “Nothing Like the Holidays” premiered with an all-star cast including John Leguizamo, Freddy Rodríguez, Vanessa Ferlito, Debra Messing, Luis Guzmán, Alfred Molina, Elizabeth Peña, Jay Hernandez, and Melonie Diaz. The film follows a Puerto Rican family living in West Chicago on what may be their last Christmas together as a family.

The film focuses on themes of family secrets and family expectations but it’s the family dynamic for me. My siblings are my everything, so seeing the Rodriguez siblings interact makes me smile, and seeing fine-ass Jay Hernandez in his prime is always a plus for me watching this movie. The depiction of how Latino culture celebrates the holidays was also insightful to view. This film is not on many mainstream watch lists for the holidays, but it should be.
