Being a parent is hard, being a single parent in the face of tragedy must be even harder. Based on the heartwarming memoir by Matthew Logelin, Netflix’s “Fatherhood” stars Kevin Hart in one of his more sentimental roles.

Hart stars as Matt who loses his wife a day after the birth of their daughter Maddy (Melody Hurd plays the older version). Matt is clearly in over his head trying to raise a daughter without his partner and struggling to get into the groove of being a single dad. The film not only spotlights the emotional true story of a widower’s journey to embracing fatherhood but highlights the importance of family, asking for help, and doing the best you can without being too hard on yourself. Father’s Day weekend is about to tug on some heartstrings.

Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Anthony Carrigan, and Paul Reiser also star in the Paul Weitz directed film out next month.
