Cooper Friedman got his start in the movie industry by following in the footsteps of his sibling. “I kinda got grandfathered in. My older brother who is 15 now, almost 16, he started when he was about four and then when I came along I started around the same age. My sister, who is seven now, she also started when she was about four. So it was kind of like, I’ll just follow my brother’s footsteps.” Since starting his career, the rising actor’s credits include: Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, & Dawn, Scandal, YouTube Original Film “The Thinning,” Girl Meets World, Colony, “Battle of The Sexes,” Shameless, and now “aTypical Wednesday.”

Written, directed, and starring J. Lee, “aTypical Wednesday” is a dark comedy that follows Gabe (Lee) who encounters a patient named Alec (Friedman) at his therapist’s office. The two then embark on an odyssey around that the city that combines the high jinks of a budding friendship and the opportunity to shed light on serious issues of bullying, mental health, and police brutality. Seth Green, Michael Ealy, Bresha Webb, and Emmy Raver-Lampman also appear in the project.

In the film Cooper plays a patient who is attending therapy to deal with issues surrounding bullying; a role that he found some similarities and differences in. “He’s definitely funny [like me] and he’s a great person to talk to, but we definitely have some differences. For example, I don’t get bullied as much, so I don’t have his anger issues and I’m not really shy to many people.”

Having most of his scenes with J. Lee, Cooper got to know him on and off screen. “It was definitely so much fun working with J. Lee. He’s a brilliant actor, director and writer. He’s just an amazing person in general. He’s just so fun to talk to. I have so many memories. He’s just a great person to be around and he’s very funny,” Friedman said, adding, “I definitely learned a lot from him. I had many experiences with him. He taught me how to hit a ball in the batting cage scene and he taught me how to be sad and in the moment [when shooting a scene].”

After viewing this film Cooper wants people to think about the themes presented and apply them in their real lives. “I want people to see how funny it is but I also want people to see how bullying, mental illnesses, racial profiling and racial problems in general are very big problems in our society today. They should take it seriously. Whoever is getting bullied, is getting racial profiled, has anger issues or mental issues; other people should make sure that they are okay and that they feel safe in our society.”

Moving forward you can be on the look out for Cooper is a few upcoming projects. “I got a few movies coming up. One’s called “Small Town Wisconsin,” which I filmed in Wisconsin for about seven weeks in 2018. It should be coming out this year. I got another movie called “Secret Agent Dingledorf,” which is based on a series of books that was created by Bill Myers. It should be coming this year, maybe early next year.”
