I know I said Glambergirlblog was on hiatus indefinitely, but when inspiration strikes for a writer you must follow. Like Gil Scott-Heron said “The revolution will not be televised” because “the revolution will be live.”

The breaking point of America is playing out right before ours eyes and it’s certainly not what many expected for June 2020, but here we are. Black people are shouting for a call of action online and off for people who deem themselves allies for Blacks and the movements, initiatives, organizations, etc that enhance the culture. I’ve been limiting my time on social media trying to balance a line of being informed and up to date with what’s happening and protecting my peace. One clip that has been circulating caught my eye and I want to share it on my site.

Actress and Strahan, Sara & Keke co-host Keke Palmer has always been vocal about any issue of adversity she comes across whether it’s racial, about her sexuality, or being a woman in this country, my Virgo sister doesn’t hold back. So it should come as no surprise that the 26-year-old would be out protesting the inequality of Black people and taking part in the many George Floyd protests literally happening in every state in the U.S. Palmer hit the pavement in the Los Angeles streets and came face to face with National Guardsmen peacefully expressing her views on the social injustice and governmental oppression of Blacks and asking the Guardsmen to march with the protesters.

The clip has since gone viral with many praising Palmer for doing her part in the fight. She appeared on Good Morning America today to speak with Robin Roberts about what it was like being up close with the Guardsmen and why she felt compelled to speak with them directly.

On social media I’m seeing many people waiting for celebrities to use their platforms to speak up and I feel mixed feelings about that. Amber Riley tweeted something that pretty much summed it up. She wrote, “Don’t rely on celebrities. You have free agency to use every amazing gift you have to fight for truth and justice. Do YOUR part. YOU are necessary. PERIODT!”

I adore Keke and I’m sure she did what she did because she felt compelled to and not because she would assume someone would be around to catch it on camera. I want people to stop putting these celebs on so much of a pedestal that they are allowing them to be the only voices that matter when it comes to speaking up about oppression. They could have a bigger audience than you do, but that doesn’t mean everything they say and do is gospel. Form your own opinions and worry about how YOU are contributing to the fight against Black oppression.

Watch Keke Palmer chat with Robin Roberts on GMA about her viral protest video talking to a few National Guardsmen in the clip below. What have you done to amplify your voice during this time and equally important…how are you protecting your peace? Let me know in the comments.
