The ‘Aladdin’ Live-Action Soundtrack Is Better Than I Anticipated [LISTEN]

It’s the eve of “Aladdin” live-action premiering in theaters across the country and Disney released the official movie soundtrack. Of course I immediately opened my Apple Music to listen to some of my favorite songs from the animated film because the clips I saw left me less than enthusiastic to see the film.

The soundtrack opens just like the animated film with “Arabian Nights.” It’s an extended version with Will Smith (The Genie) singing/rapping. At this point I’m not hype. Mena Massoud (Aladdin) sings “One Jump Ahead” and again I’m not over the moon. The “One Jump Ahead (Reprise)” did kind of give me the feels. “Speechless (Part 1)” follows sung by Naomi Scott (Jasmine). This is a new song for the film, skip.

Now to the good stuff. All The Genie numbers. “Friend Like Me” by Will Smith is not bad. I think seeing it animated might make me like it better. “Prince Ali” is better than that awful preview that was circulating. I was a little worried when I didn’t hear those horns at the start of the track, but it got better. The climax of the song is the best part. It’s LIT.

Mena Massoud & Naomi Scott take on the iconic “A Whole New World” and it’s lackluster, but you can have it on as background music. Now “Friend Like Me (End Title)” had a record scratch in my head when I saw DJ Khaled was featured. I do not want to hear “another one” yelled at me on an “Aladdin” soundtrack, but then the beat dropped and…
