We are 39 days away from the premiere of FX’s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll and today we get a special look at the original comedy series.

In the 5 minute featurette, creator, writer and director Denis Leary along with cast members Elizabeth GilliesElaine Hendrix, Robert KellyJohn Ales, and John Corbett discuss the show and their characters.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is about a band that had all the promise and talent to become huge stars and my character Johnny Rock blew it all. So now it’s 30 years later and he’s extensively thinking that he’s going to get that band back together again to try to take one more shot,” Leary said in the video.

“I play Flash Gordon, Johnny’s guitar playing, songwriting partner, best buddy/nemesis in the traditional good Steven Tyler – Joe Perry relationships, we love each other and we hate each other and can’t see eye to eye on hardly anything,” Corbett revealed in the featurette.

Elaine Hendrix then talked about her character Ava saying, “Johnny and I have been together forever. I help keep Johnny Rock in line as best I can and it’s usually in protecting him from himself.”

Who is said to be the break out star of the series and Leary’s “secret weapon” for the show’s success, Elizabeth Gillies, who plays Gigi, has this to say. “I come out of the woodwork as Johnny Rock’s daughter and he doesn’t know that I ever existed and I shake everything up,” the 21-year-old said. “And I reunite the band by offering money to make me famous.”

Robert Kelly and John Ales play Bam Bam and Rehab, respectively, and sort of serve as the perfect additional comedic relief and sidekicks in the show. Clips from SDRR are also intertwined in the video.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll premieres Thursday, July 16 at 10pm on FX
