The 87th annual Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, gathered the best of Hollywood on Sunday, February 22, live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Host Neil Patrick Harris opened the show with an amazing musical medley that showcased epic movie moments over the decades; he was joined by Anna Kendrick and Jack Black [WATCH BELOW].

Harris attempted to add comedic flare to his hosting duties and shined at some points with a tribute to “Birdman” where he took the stage in his undies but then there were moments when he failed by getting “Selma” star David Oyelowo to give the punch line to an unfunny stab at the “Annie” starring Quvenzhané Wallis.

Along with awards being given out there were many musical performances of the night all from the Best Original Song nominees. Adam Levine, Rita Ora, Tim McGraw, The Lonely Island with Tegan and SaraCommon and John Legend all took the stage. Jennifer Hudson and Lady Gaga also did special numbers during the event.

There were two music numbers that took over social media. Common and John Legend’s performance of “Glory” brought Chris Pine and David Oyelowo to tears. They went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song. The other highlight was Lady Gaga’s “Sound Of Music” tribute honoring the film’s 50th anniversary. She performed a medley of “The Hills Are Alive,” “My Favorite Things” and “Climb Every Mountain” that received a standing ovation and a sweet embrace from the star of the film Julie Andrews as she took the stage following the performance. Now this isn’t the Grammy’s so there is more to talk about than music. Patricia Arquette won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in “Boyhood” and gave a moving acceptance that got Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez out their seats. What made them go off? Arquette ended her speech saying “To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.” Preach on Patricia!
