February is the special month in which we honor and celebrate African-Americans, past and present, for all their accomplishments in a variety of fields: music, television, film, fashion, business and so much more. Here at Glambergirlblog we want to do things a little bit different. Everyday throughout this month we will spotlight some of the glamberous African-Americans in the entertainment industry.

It’s a wrap Glamberous Ones! Today is the last day of February so this is the last Black History Month Spotlight post. I hope you all enjoyed reading about these talented and game changing African-Americans in entertainment throughout the month. Be sure to go back and read all the feature posts by searching “BHM Spotlight” in the search box located at the bottom and top of each page. I’m wrapping up these series of post and letting Kanye West finish.

The Chicago raised rapper proved that ulterior paths can truly lead to greatness. Kanye initially had a flare for the arts and studied it for a year at Chicago State University. While attending school, Kanye worked with local artists and spent time working on his own music. He later dropped out to move to New York City in 2001 to pursue a career in music. As luck would have it, soon after moving to NYC Kanye was hired by rapper Jay-Z to produce songs for his The Blueprint album. After working with Jay, Kanye begin to land work producing other big names like rapper Ludacris and Beyoncé.

Following a car accident that left Ye with his jaw wired shut, greatness began to bloom. During that time he released his debut album The College Dropout which sold 2.6 million copies and earned Ye his first Grammy for Best Rap Album. The success kept pouring in from there. His albums Late Registration and Graduation were equally a hit and earned him more Grammy’s for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Sadly, the loss of his mother, Donda West, in 2007 caused Kanye to go on a downward spiral. I mean we all remember his “George Bush doesn’t like black people” rant and interrupting Taylor Swift during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

It’s good to see Kanye gave up his frequent erratic ways though. These Kanye is still making music with his deemed bestie Jay-Z (CC: Watch The Throne) and is expecting his first child with girlfriend and reality-TV star Kim Kardashian.

Fun Fact About Kanye West: In 2009, Kanye debuted a line of shoes he designed for Louis Vuitton.
