The once Lifetime show turned Netflix Original series You, based on the thriller books by Caroline Kepnes, is coming back for a second season next month and fans are excited. The show didn’t get much buzz when it initially debuted, but became a binge watching fav when it was cancelled on the cable network and picked up on the streaming service.

In the first season, Penn Badgley stars as Joe Goldberg, an internet savvy bookstore manager who will stop at nothing to get his dream girl – Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) including stalking and murder. While some loved the show many found the narrative that was being displayed problematic. Even the star, Penn, often took to social media to question the sanity of those who were falling in love with Joe knowing all the demented behavior he was capable of. Either way the new season is shot and the first look came on Monday with a release date.

On social media the official poster revealed Joe will meet his match looking at his future, Love (Victoria Pedretti), with his past, Candace (Ambyr Childers), lurking in the shadows. The poster also came with a brief teaser showing some of the upcoming characters.

Having read Hidden Bodies, the second book in the You series by Caroline Kepnes, I’m wondering how that book will translate with what has already been set in place by the show. Quick recap: SPOILERS AHEAD…

Season 1, Joe stalks and falls in love with Beck and eliminates aka murders anyone who causes her pain or gets in the way of them; Peach and Benji. It’s rumored that he murdered his ex Candace since she disappeared without a trace, but she’s been active on social under an alias. Long story short things go south with Beck due to Joe’s jealous nature and he kills her and frames her psychiatrist Dr. Nicky. Candace shows back up in the end. Keep in mind in the book Joe murders Candace.

In Hidden Bodies Joe is in a new relationship with a chick named Amy who basically was playing him to gain access to expensive books in the store he managers. She flees to California and so does Joe to get his books back and revenge. He’s lying low under an alias but meets and falls in love with a girl named Love, I know. Her family is rich and he spirals down a new path in that world with his body count rising, his past murders sneaking up on him and developing a ride or die relationship with Love once he tells her everything. So already you can see how the book format doesn’t match the end of season 1, so I’m curious to see what will happen and I will.

Season 2 of You comes to Netflix Thursday, December 26.
