I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen the 1976 film “Carrie.” The Brian De Palma directed movie was adapted into a screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen based on the Stephen King novel about Carrie White, a shy and sheltered teen girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers that reached deadly heights during a prom from hell. Sissy Spacek brought the iconic character to life and no other adaptation of the project has ever come even a tiny bit close to comparing to the original.
Back in 2018, Spacek chatted with GQ about the role and what made it so special for her career moving forward.
On November 16, 1976 “Carrie” was released nationwide in theaters and starred Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, John Travolta, Betty Buckley, P.J. Soles, and Nancy Allen along with Spacek. The delivery of the iconic lines, the score, and cinematography will remain key reasons why “Carrie” is on my list of favorite movies of all time.
