Fans of STARZ hit, award-winning series Power have been anxiously awaiting news for when the sixth season would premiere. In the past an early summer release was the norm, but now things are getting shaken up with some bittersweet news.

Thursday on Strahan and Sara, 50 Cent (Executive Producer/Actor of the show) joined series cast members Omari Hardwick, Lela Loren, Naturi Naughton, Joseph Sikora, and La La Anthony for a special announcement. “We’ll be back August 25th,” 50 Cent started and added, “It’s the final season of Power, but it’s an extended season of 15 shows instead of 10.” The actor, who will make his directorial debut this upcoming season, went on to say it’s so many stories in this universe that he and Courtney Kemp (Creator) brought to life that spin-off shows are in the works.

In an official statement from President of Programming for Starz, Carmi Zlotnik, it was revealed the first chapter of the Power story is far from over. “Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent have created a world rich with complex and dynamic characters and there are a number of stories we plan to tell as we continue to explore and expand the ‘Power’ universe,” Zlotnik said.

Kemp added, “We will follow some of your beloved ‘Power’ characters beyond the scope of the initial series. But we will play with your expectations of which characters, where, and the master timeline of it all, creating a ‘Power’ universe as unpredictable as the original.”

The sixth and final season is all structured after the final moments of season 5 with James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Hardwick) out for revenge. While still trying to remain clean, Ghost will have to navigate getting even with Tommy (Sikora),getting the Queens Child Project properly running to honor his late daughter, and become a legitimate businessman away from his illegal activities with the mantra “success is the best revenge.”

Hardwick, Loren, Naughton, Sikora, and Anthony along with Rotimi, Jerry Ferrara, Shane Johnson, Michael Rainey Jr. and Larenz Tate will appear as series regulars. Evan Handler, Michael J. Ferguson, Monique Gabriela Curnen and Mike Dopud will have important roles in the final season as well.

The Final Betrayal of Power premieres Sunday, August 25th on Starz.
