Can you believe it? It’s almost a new year. As always, and I’m sure many people say this, but this year went by so fast. 2016 is around the corner and I’ve already claimed that year to be the year of “Milestones,” but before we embark on a new year we must reflect on the year’s past. So Glambergirlblog is presenting our traditional “Best Of” moments in a two-part feature. First up, I’ll share GGB’s personal favorite/best moments of 2015 and on Monday GGB will share the top pop culture stories of the year. Of course it’s the top 15 moments, in no particular order. Sound good? Good. Without further adieu, check out Glambergirlblog’s Best of 2015.
1. Glambergirlblog Turns 4 – April 16, 2011 is the day GGB was born and this year my site turned 4. As always I’m grateful for all those who take the time to read, comment, share, and do anything GGB related. To celebrate this year GGB had a special giveaway along with revealing the new layout and new logo.
2. Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and the memes – Back in November Drake’s release of “Hotline Bling” damn near broke the internet because of the lyrics and Drake’s dance moves. Naturally there were memes galore and parodies, I’m talking to you SNL, but my absolute.favorite.thing.ever!!! is Matt Bomer drunk dancing to the song on the winter finale of American Horror Story: Hotel. It’s one of the best moments of that series’ history.
3. Made in America 2015 – Last year I covered the MIA fest for the first time in Philly and it went OK, but this year I was more prepared on what to expect. I was covered the event for GGB along with my friend and fellow Delaware State University alum Kevin Spence and together we got some great content. Plus I got to see my boy Big Sean live! Yay.
4. TUT Takes Over Spike – July was the hottest month of the year and I’m not talking about the weather. Spike premiered it’s mini series event TUT starring Avan Jogia and Ben Kingsley about the infamous Egyptian boy king Tutankhamun. I constantly blogged about all the coverage leading up to the television event and it was so fun and hilarious live tweeting with fans and the cast during those three nights.
5. I Got To Meet The King – Speaking of TUT let’s just talk about the amazing time I got to meet Avan Jogia in person. At the AOL Build event in July I went with the full intention of meeting Avan and telling him how much I loved TUT. I got a press kit that gave me a sneak peek at the first night. I wrote an amazing review, if I do say so myself, about the series that he retweeted to his millions of Twitter followers and he ended up following me on Twitter, so basically we’re besties. I joke, I kid.
6. Jade West Is Actually Sweet – Let’s just keep this Victorious train going. Not only did I meet Avan Jogia aka Beck, I met his female counterpart Jade aka Elizabeth Gillies aka Liz Gillies. July was also the month Gillies new FX series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll premiered so she and the rest of the cast was doing press in NYC. I attended their Apple Soho store chat and got to meet Gillies and the rest of the SDRR cast. Everyone was so nice and funny, and Gillies complimented me on my makeup. I love her for life.
7. Cosmopolitan’s second annual #FunFearlessLife Conference – I attended Cosmopolitan’s second annual #FunFearlessLife conference solo this year and it was an amazing experience. I got to connect with some great ladies, I powered up, and I got noticed by all the fashion editors’ because of my signature lip bag.
8. Scream Queens Is Actually Life – This year would not be complete unless I mention my utter obsession in Scream Queens. From the fashion, one line zingers, and Twitter commentary, it was the best thing to happen to Tuesday nights since Norbit’s date with Kate. If you watched the first season, then I’m sure you completely agree with me in saying Scream Queens was actually life.
9. Glambergirlblog Invaded Mars – 2015 I did something so different and did my first podcast with Invading Mars. We talked blogging and pop culture which I loved. I never knew how much I really have to say about things until I did my first podcast. Will there be more in 2016?
10. Special Events Are Fun With Viacom – Some of you may or may not know, but I do freelance work with major networks working in their Special Events department. One of those companies is Viacom and I often travel to New York to work amazing events like Upfronts, screenings, and taping on programs. This year I worked on some great stuff like The Breaks press and cast screening, Lip Sync Battle in Central Park, and Spike’s Upfronts. Visit my Instagram page and you see some of the behind the scenes action.
11. I Became A Damn Belieber – I know I can’t believe it either, or should I say Belieb it. Justin Bieber released Purpose in November and damn it the crush I sort of had on him a few years ago came flooding back. All I wanted to do, and still do, is listen to Purpose. All I have to do now is somehow figure out how to afford concert tickets.
12. Scooter Braun Taught Me – The magic man behind JB is also the man behind my girl AG. Yes Ariana Grande finally released new music this year. “Focus” is the first single off Grande’s upcoming third studio album Moonlight and while it took me some time to really love the single I’m on board now. Moonlight is expected early 2016 and to hold us over AG released a sexy Christmas album called Christmas & Chill. It’s all I’ve been listening to for the past 24 hours.
13. The Gang Gets Back Together – I love it when beloved casts reunite after years, some decades apart, but my heart overflows when it’s a cast from a show or movie I was obsessed with. The Degrassi: The Next Generation cast had some great moments throughout the year linking up along with the cast of “Bring It On” getting together for Entertainment Weekly’s annual reunion issue, but my very bias favorite is the Victorious cast sleepover, onesie reunion. It’s like Sleepover at Sikowitz’s meets candy jammies.
14. What Color Is The Damn Dress – It’s the moment that divided a nation and made us question our eyesight and sanity. A photo of a hideous dress ended friendships, broke up relationships, and started Twitter wars all because we couldn’t decide if the dress was blue and black or yellow and white? What color is the dress is the question we all asked and I’m not sure if we ever got a straight answer.
15. Interviews 2015 – Last but not least. I want to shout out all the amazing people I got to interview this year. I love chatting with people about their careers, upcoming projects, or anything pop culture. I love all the people I interview, but this year seemed extra special, so thanks to: Kady Z, Jaynay Johnson, Britt Flatmo, Amanda Munz, Valenzia Algarin, Dani Rey, Finneas O’Connell, Robert Paul Taylor, Delon, Rotimi, Cody Saintgnue, Rebecca Bloom, Santana Dempsey, Tamara Jacobs, Josh Stevens, Mohamed Omar, Frankee Razor, Jim Mullin, Scott Turner Schofield, Hailey Sole, Oskar Rodriguez, Chazz Nittolo, Jaida-Iman Benjamin, Cobi Mike, Anna Sargeant, Ian Verdun, Tyrese, Hunter King, Austin Kolbe, Jeriana San Juan, Eric Lilavois, Tyree Evans, J2, and Yara Shahidi.
