“This is not a ghost story. This is not a love story. This is a prayer, a song, a dress, a communion, a prayer, a sacrifice, a rebirth,” but what does that all really mean. After watching the official trailer for “Mother Mary” starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel I’m still not too sure what genre to place this movie in.
Written and directed by David Lowery, “Mother Mary” follows iconic pop star Mother Mary (Hathaway) who reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm (Coel), on the eve of her comeback performance. It’s clear the ladies have a deep rooted past and it involves some sort of witchcraft. Is that what gave Mother Mary her stardom? Could Sam easily take it away? We’ll find out in 2026.
Alongside Hathaway and Coel, Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Alba Baptista, Sian Clifford, and FKA Twigs appear in the film as supporting cast.
“Mother Mary” is expected in theaters Spring 2026. Watch the “Mother Mary” official trailer in the clip below.
