Pack up the Manolos and grab a Cosmo as we say goodbye to Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte for good this time.
And Just Like That… showrunner, writer and director Michael Patrick King issued a statement on social media breaking the news to fans that the current season of the spin off series would be the end of the Sex and The City universe. The show is in its third season and originally was set to wrap with 10 episodes, but has been extended 12, a two-part finale.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the iconic Carrie Bradshaw, also issued a statement on Instagram. In the lengthy post, SJP wrote about her time as the character while thanking the fans paired with a video slideshow memorable moments from the series.
Sex And The City first premiered on HBO in 1998 and ran for 6 seasons followed by two feature films and the And Just Like That… revival series. I didn’t watch SATC when it aired because I was way too young to be watching a show like that, but I did get into it when I was age appropriate and loved the show. I laughed, I cried, and I cringed while watching those four fabulous women navigate love, sex, and friendship in NYC. And the clothes! Let’s not forget the clothes. Another reason why I tuned in.
The first season of And Just Like That… took some getting use to, but I ended up really enjoying it although I will forever miss Samantha. I was glad to see the ladies in character again and even got around to liking the new additions. I know the current season has been getting trashed and while I do think it has struggled to find a balance of being authentic to the original show and pleasing a more easily offended climate, I don’t think it deserves all the hate and knowing the end is near is making these final moments with the girls that much more precious.
The final episode of And Just Like That… is slated to air on HBO Max on Thursday, August 14.
Are you sad to say goodbye to the SATC ladies or do you think there’s still hope for a comeback sometime in the distant future?
