The end of the month is here, but before we rang in a new year it’s time to look at the past 12 months and review the best of 2024. Glambergirlblog has featured posts that broke down my favorite music and pop culture moments of the year and now it’s time for the final two posts. Next, Best of 2024: TV Shows Worth Watching
I will say I did spend much of the year watching the shows of TV past. I didn’t have the mindset to get into anything fresh so I did rematches/watch to completion of shows like Desperate Housewives, Glee, Nip/Tuck, Dynasty and Modern Family. I did give new shows a try like No Good Deed, Squid Game season 2, Baby Reindeer, and The Perfect Couple, but I enjoyed living in the past more. There were a handful of new shows though that I enjoyed to make them my faves of 2024.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Prime Video)
In the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Prime Video series, which premiered the full 8-episode season in early February, Donald Glover and Maya Erskine play two strangers who land jobs at a spy agency and are offered a luxurious yet dangerous life of espionage, wealth, and travel where they must assume new identities in an arranged marriage as John and Jane Smith, they comply. Yes, this is a spin on the 2005 film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but I enjoyed that the John and Jane in the series fully knew of their spy background and worked together in their missions. The show was filled with action and I loved how while the overall story was cohesive each episode felt standalone. Can’t wait for season 2.
Tell Me Lies season 2 (Hulu)
There isn’t a show that’s quite as infuriating and entertaining as Hulu’s Tell Me Lies. Starring Grace Van Patten and Jackson White as Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco, the show follows the pair of college students who spark a toxic relationship over the course of Lucy’s freshman year and spans into later years. Based on the book by Carola Lovering, Tell Me Lies touches on topics of manipulation, toxic love and friendships, childhood trauma, and more. I didn’t think the second season could top the craziness in the first, but I was wrong. [Read my recaps HERE]. I literally squealed with joy that the show got renewed for a third season because as always there’s still so many questions that need to be answered and I need more lies!
Nobody Wants This (Netflix)
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody starred in the rom-com series everybody indeed wanted. Bell plays Joanne, an agnostic sex podcaster and meets and falls for Noah (Brody), a very attractive and newly single rabbi. Throughout their courtship the pair discover if their relationship can survive their wildly different lives and meddling families. It took me about a month to check out Nobody Wants This following its release but when I did I found the dynamics of Joanne and Noah’s relationship to be totally swoon worthy. There were some episodes that dragged but Nobody Wants This was good enough to make my list.
Bad Sisters season 2 (Apple TV+)
One thing I’m going to be a sucker for on screen is a father/daughter dynamic and a group of sisters. Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters wrapped its second season about a week ago, so I waited until then to binge the season. The Garvey sisters are back and that means a new murder isn’t far behind that they’ll have to cover up. Created by Brett Baer, Dave Finkel, and Sharon Horgan, Horgan as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Eva Birthistle as Ursula, Sarah Greene as Bibi and Eve Hewson as Becka all returned. This season had twists I didn’t see coming and tears I wasn’t expecting. I loved the dynamics of the sisters because it’s all too familiar having three of them myself. Who knows if this story will continue, but I think season 2 wraps things up nicely if it doesn’t.
From season 3 (MGM+)
The mystery’s of the town that traps its residents are still unfolding three seasons in for the MGM+ series From. The performances from the actors were stronger while the plot dragged. The thing about From that still keeps me interested is the allure in finding out if the trapped will ever find a way home and how will the monsters outdo themselves. The show is renewed for another season so we’ll see what will happen with chapter jumping and reincarnation introduced into the lore.
