The Wayans brothers are back and now “Scary Movie” might actually be funny again.
On social media Marlon Wayans revealed that his brothers along with himself would be returning to the franchise they initially started in 2000 with the first “Scary Movie.” He posted, “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

The “Scary Movie” franchise was a slew of films that parodied popular horror films including “The Exorcist,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Scream,” “The Ring,” “The Grudge,” “Signs,” “The Village,” “Saw,” “The Haunting,” and “What Lies Beneath.” The first two films, released in 2000 and 2001 were directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and written by Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Buddy Johnson. Featured cast included Anna Faris, Regina Hall, and the Wayans brothers. The first two films were arguably the best and the third and fourth, released in 2003 and 2006 weren’t that bad because Faris and Hall were still included. The one released in 2013 didn’t feature any of the OG’s and is known as the least favorite. This new installment would be the sixth in the “Scary Movie” lore and will bring back the Wayans. I’m hoping Regina and Anna got a call as well! They NEED to be in it.
Now in regards to content? I need the script to be just as controversial, raunchy, and hilarious as they were in the early 2000s. I trust the Wayans can deliver. There’s also a platter of new horror films that can be picked from as source material. I’ve seen a bunch of chatter about wanting films like “Pearl” and “Hereditary” spoofed and I think the Wayans definitely should lean into the elevated horror genre. I wouldn’t mind films like “Final Destination,” “M3GAN,” “The Conjuring,” “Midsommar,” or any of the Jordan Peele movies mentioned as well. This is going to be good.
Who would you want to see appear in the new “Scary Movie” film and which films would you want to see parodied? Share your thoughts in the comments.
