It started with an out of context clip of Walton Goggins from Vice Principals that inspired the idea for a recurring Glambergirlblog segment post. “This Out of Context Clip” will bring me and you my dear readers to the source of some of the most random and hilarious clips circulating and going viral online.
As I was scrolling through Twitter the other day I came across a clip that left me so tickled I had to find out more. In the clip a man is seen absoletly distraught that a lady is stomping her heels through his flower beds leading to some of the best line delivery I’ve seen in film. Allow me to set the scene.
The viral moment is from the 1969 Bruce Kessler directed film “The Gay Deceivers” with the story by Abe Polsky and Gil Lasky with screenplay by Jerome Wish. Kevin Coughlin and Lawrence P. Casey star in the film as Danny and Elliot, two close friends who pretend to be gay to get out of being drafting into the war. To further their ruse they move in together when they are placed under surveillance by the Army with Colonel Dixon (Jack Starrett) keeping a close eye on them.
Danny and Elliot’s new dwelling is managed by Malcolm (Michael Greer) who lives with his husband Craig (Sebastian Brook) a few units over. Malcolm decorated their cabin himself and has prized peonies he tends to on the property. One day after Elliot (who has been desperately missing female companionship) is done serving Mrs. Conway (Jeanne Baird) – his sugar momma basically and friend to Danny’s mom, she makes a quick exit through the complex stomping on Malcolm’s “peonies” accidently. When Malcolm catches wind he curses her, but Mrs. Conway doesn’t take it quietly shouting back and informing Malcom his flowers aren’t peonies, “THEY’RE MARIGOLDS.” Ever so dramatically Malcolm responds, “I may not know my flowers but I know a bitch when I see one!” It’s all so good.
“The Gay Deceivers” may sterotypically take jabs at the gay community and use offensive language but it’s one of those random films that will be interesting to have in your cinephile roster with a twist ending I didn’t see coming.
“The Gay Deceivers” is streaming now on Tubi.
