If last summer was deemed Barbenheimer with “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” dominating 2023 then maybe this year it could be a Shayamalan Summer.
Ishana Shyamalan, M. Night Shayamalan’s daughter, has her feature film directorial debut with “The Watchers” on June 14 and a few months later M. Night’s newest film “Trap” comes to theaters with his other daughter Saleka starring as a fictional pop star, but those vocals are real. (You might have already heard her in other Shayamalan projects like the 2021 film “Old” and episodes of Servant)
The plot for “Trap” is simple. A father named Cooper (Josh Hartnett) takes his teen daughter (Ariel Donoghue) to the pop concert of Lady Raven (Saleka Shyamalan), but Cooper soon realizes an increase presence of police and questions it. The police set up the concert as an elaborate decoy to trap a serial killer known as the Butcher who seemingly is Josh’s character. With so much of the premise laid out in the trailer and knowing M. Night Shyamalan’s films that can’t be all that’s to this story. There has to be come kind of unexpected twist right?
Hayley Mills and Allison Pill are also featured cast in “The Trap” set for a August 9, 2024 release and internationally beginning on August 1.
