If you enjoyed HBO’s Big Little Lies and Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers then the Peacock Original Apples Never Fall will be the perfect series for your next binge watch. Based on Liane Moriarty’s (author of the aforementioned work) New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, Apples Never Fall stars Sam Neill and Annette Bening.
In the show, Neill and Bening play former tennis coaches Stan and Joy Delaney who have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start the golden years of retirement along with spending time with their four adult children, played by Jake Lacy, Alison Brie, Conor Merrigan-Turner, and Essie Randles. One day a wounded young woman named Savannah (Georgia Flood) appears at Joy and Stan’s door and changes everything. When Joy suddenly disappears the picture-perfect lives of the Delaney family begin to shatter. Apples Never Fall premiered March 14 on Peacock with all 7-episodes.
Paula Andrea Placido (Shameless, The L Word, Hacks) appears on the show as Gina Solis, the fiancée to Essie Randles’ character Brooke Delaney, and shared with Glambergirlblog about landing the role. Paula said, “I remember I got the audition I think it was January of last year and one of the first things I noticed was the shooting locations. It said West Palm Beach and Australia and something clicked at me because I grew up in West Palm Beach so sometimes like there’s like little things that like…just stand out and you’re like there’s some sort of connection here this feels right. I read the…first I saw that it was Melanie [Marnich] and I saw that David Heyman were attached and that it was David Rubin casting so I was like okay this is this is going to be something good.”
Later in the chat Paula shared her views on the evolution of queer representation. “It’s so interesting because I think me and my friends were just having this discussion. We watched “Drive-Away Dolls” recently and “Bottoms.” So we were just like wow, two different…completely different depictions of like lesbian friendships. And it’s so funny because I do think it has evolved. There’s a lot more, there’s a lot more, presence now on TV and film which I absolutely love and now I’m starting to see like some good queer movies some really bad ones but I think I’d rather have something than nothing. So I think as time evolves there’ll be more but I’m happy that we have some now and I’m happy to be apart of it.”
