All my favorite shows are getting the boot. After I saw the news that Rap Sh!t wasn’t getting renewed on Max, I soon found out that Apple TV+ wouldn’t be going forward with another season of the musical sensation that was Schmigadoon!

Co-created by Cinco Paul, season 1 premiered in July 2021 and followed Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong), a pair of doctors who find their relationship in a rut. While on a couple’s retreat, Josh and Melissa get lost and stumble upon a magical town called Schmigadoon in which everyone acts like they’re in a classic musical. Season 2 premiered in April of last year and caught up with Josh and Melissa, now married but still feel they don’t have their happy ending. They stumble into Schmicago, the sexy and darker era of musicals that happened in the ’60s and ’70s as they try to find happiness.

The series cast featured Broadway greats and equally awesome acting talent from Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ariana DeBose, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Martin Short, Fred Armisen, Liam Quiring-Nkindi, and Aaron Tveit. Cinco Paul, who also writes the music for Schmigadoon!, shared a statement on social media about the show ending and what could have been for season three.

“I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with season 3 of Schmigadoon! The season is written (including 25 new songs), but we unfortunately won’t be making it,” Paul said in the statement while thanking supporters and being hopeful Schmigadoon! could find life somewhere else. “This was tough news to get, but the optimist in me is convinced it’s not the end of Schmigadoon…and maybe it’s even a happy beginning.”

Both seasons of Schmigadoon! are available to stream on Apple TV+.
