I love movies and that should come as no surprise since I have a pop culture site curated towards TV and film content but I usually steer toward a certain genre. This year I’ve made a personal goal for myself to watch more films that are out of my typical wheelhouse, so recently I watched “Role Play” on Prime Video which premiered on January 12.
Directed by Thomas Vincent and written by Seth W. Owen, Kaley Cuoco stars in the film as Emma who has a wonderful life with her husband Dave (David Oyelowo) and their two kids in the suburbs of New Jersey, but Emma has a secret. She’s an assassin for hire but wants desperately to get out of her side life. In an attempt to spice up their marriage, Emma and Dave plan to go to a hotel and role-play as strangers meeting at a bar, but Emma’s secret life catches up with her, and is placed in a position where her secret is revealed to her husband. Connie Nielsen, Bill Nighy, Rudi Dharmalingam, Lucia Aliu, and Regan Bryan-Gudgeon also appear in the film.
The concept of the film was intriguing enough for me to press play and the last few Kaley Cuoco projects I watched I enjoyed so I wanted to give “Role Play” a chance. This movie wasn’t bad but the best bits came with Kaley’s character Emma’s assassin life. I wanted more of that. More of her on missions and more of the ways that made her this sought-after assassin. It was still worth a watch and definitely a movie I wouldn’t usually get into.
“Role Play” is streaming now on Prime Video.
