The David Nicholls global best-selling book One Day is coming back to the screen with a new cast for a new audience. In 2011 the book was made into a feature film of the same name starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Now the TV version of the story will star Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall as the protagonists Emma and Dexter.
In One Day, Emma Morley (Mod) and Dexter Mayhew (Woodall) meet on graduation night on July 15, 1988, and then go their separate ways the morning after. The story spans decades as each episode finds Dex and Em one year older on one particular date “as they grow and change, move together and apart, and experience joy and heartbreak” in the 14-episode British series.
Tim McInnerny, Amber Grappy, Jonny Weldon, Eleanor Tomlinson, Joely Richardson, and Toby Stephens also appear in the show. Although I didn’t read the book, I watched the 2011 “One Day” film and sobbed so hard when I first saw it, so I can only imagine what this show will do to me when it’s fleshed out more.
One Day streams on Netflix on February 8.
