Just a week before the release of “Mean Girls” in theaters the track list from the motion picture soundtrack has been revealed, but it’s been met with mixed reactions from lovers of the Broadway show.
The Original Broadway Cast Recording featured 21 tracks with the cast while the 2024 version has been sliced by half with 12 songs along with lead single “Not My Fault” by Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion.
Some of the songs featured on both the Broadway and motion picture soundtracks are “A Cautionary Tale,” “Meet the Plastics,” “Stupid With Love,” “Apex Predator,” “Sexy,” and “Revenge Party.”
In “Mean Girls” new student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) infiltrates “The Plastics,” consisting of Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika), when an inner battle sparks over Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney). Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), Cady’s first friends, help her along the way.
“Mean Girls” comes to theaters on January 12, 2024, with the soundtrack released the same day.
