I’m a fully committed lover of the 2004 film “Mean Girls.” I try to wear pink on Wednesdays, I celebrate October 3rd, and I make fetch happen so the film has a special hold on me. I had my apprehensions about the film being redone even if it’s adapted from the Broadway musical, but I’ve been doing my research. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack from the original Broadway show, reading up on the cast and their musical talents, and I’m willing to give the film a try with no judgment.
The premise of the film generally remains the same. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) infiltrates “The Plastics,” consisting of Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika), when an inner battle sparks over Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney). Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), Cady’s first friends, help her along the way.
In the “Revenge Party” final trailer, a song from the musical BTW, we see more of Cady’s transformation into the popular clique and more aspects of the musical component of the film.
“Mean Girls” comes to theaters on January 12, 2024.
