Who Really won In ‘Freddy vs. Jason’? [Glamberween]

As a Horror lover, I can admit there are aspects of the genre that I have yet to uncover. Case in point I’ve never seen an entire Freddy Krueger movie, and I definitely never saw a Jason Voorhees movie. I vaguely remember seeing “Freddy vs. Jason” and it’s been on my mind to see it as an adult. Luckily for me, the movie is currently streaming on Max, so I decided to give it a revisit for spooky season and kick off 13 Days of Glamberween with a question: who really won in “Freddy vs. Jason?”

Many ask who would win out of Batman and Superman, and this film is the Horror version of that debate. Written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift with characters by Wes Craven and Victor Miller, “Freddy vs. Jason” was directed by Ronny Yu and released in 2003. Robert Englund played Freddy Krueger, a role he first played in the 1984 film “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” and Ken Kirzinger took on the role of Jason Voorhees.

Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Kelly Rowland, Katharine Isabelle, Christopher Marquette, Brendan Fletcher, Tom Butler, Lochlyn Munro, Kyle Labine, Zack Ward, Paula Shaw, Garry Chalk, Jesse Hutch, David Kopp, and Brent Chapman make up the ensemble cast.

The plot of the film follows Freddy facing a dilemma of people no longer being afraid of him. In order to regain his powers of murdering people in their sleep he goes into the dreams of a sleeping Jason who lies at the bottom of a lake. Jason is woken up and sent to Elm Street by Freddy to spark fear so Freddy can regain his power. But Jason started doing too much taking Freddy’s kills so the battle began.

It was Freddy’s infamous bladed gloves versus Jason’s machete. The film had plenty of gore that Horror lovers can gravitate towards and I never realized how funny Freddy is. He’s like Chucky-level sarcastic.

There were several rounds of fights between Freddy and Jason. While Freddy had Jason in his dream realm he had one up on him, but once brought into reality Freddy had his work cut out for him. The final battle was a very exciting thrill ride to the death and I think Jason won. He got the last stab that led to Freddy’s death so he won this “Verzuz” in my opinion, but you tell me.

If you recently watched “Freddy vs. Jason” or are familiar with the film who do you think won? Share your thoughts in the comments.
