One thing I realized recently is that Apple TV+ does the mystery crime drama genre really well. Any show you decide to watch that falls in line with that genre you won’t be disappointed. I knew their upcoming mystery crime drama City On Fire had my attention when I saw the tagline “Where Were You On July 4th?” attached to the project. Consider it added to my watch list.

Based on the best-selling novel by Garth Risk Hallberg and created for television by Stephanie Savage and John Schwartz, City on Fire follows the shooting of NYU student Samantha (Chase Sui Wonders) on July 4, 2003, in Central Park. “The investigation connects a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep.” Wyatt Oleff, Xavier Clyde, Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi, Kathleen Munroe, and John Cameron Mitchell make up the ensemble cast.

The first three episodes of City On Fire premiere on Friday, May 12, and new episodes drop weekly through June 16 on Apple TV+
