True crime has always been a fascinating subject that viewers gravitate towards. It’s a bittersweet concept because although these are factual events that affected real people, it’s one of Hollywood’s biggest money makers whether in true crime documentaries, podcasts, or scripted retellings. Peacock’s upcoming series Based on a True Story will follow the true crime wave.
Created by Craig Rosenberg and starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, Based on a True Story follows “a realtor, a former tennis star and a plumber seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America’s obsession with true crime.” This concept feels similar to Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, but I love that show, so I’m sure I’ll love this. Especially since Peacock’s Originals are rarely misses.
Tom Bateman, Aisha Alfa, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Priscilla Quintana, Sebastian Quinn, Belmont Cameli, Yvonne Senat Jones, Lizze Broadway, Miles Mussenden, Li Jun Li, Natalia Dyer, Liana Liberato, Alex Alomar Akpobome, and Brandon Keener make up the ensemble cast.
Based on a True Story comes to Peacock on Thursday, June 8 with all 8 episodes streaming.
