The pop scene is about to get nasty this summer because HBO’s The Idol is aiming to bring back the bad girl pop star.
From Sam Levinson (Euphoria) and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye comes The Idol, a series about Tedros (The Weeknd), a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who enters a “complicated relationship” with rising pop idol Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp). The show already has a reputation for being sleazy and overly sexual and the teaser released so far seems to follow suit, but I still feel viewers will tune in and see for themselves.
Hank Azaria, Elizabeth Berkley, Karl Glusman, Anne Heche, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Kim, Eli Roth, and Rachel Sennott make up the ensemble cast.
The Idol premieres Sunday, June 4 on Max, the newly named HBO Max streaming service.
