From director Zachary Wigon and writer Micah Bloomberg, comes a Neon film that will depict the line between taboo pleasure, power, and control in the upcoming film “Sanctuary” starring Christopher Abbott and Margaret Qualley.
In the dark comedy, Qualley plays a dominatrix named Rebecca and Abbott is Hal her wealthy client. The pair have a very extensive relationship that is coming to end now that Hal has acquired his father’s hotel chain and he must clean out all the skeleton’s in his closet moving into the public eye. This doesn’t sit well with Rebecca and “a battle of wills ensues over the course of one incredibly fraught night, with both Rebecca and Hal struggling to keep the upper hand as the power dynamics swing wildly back and forth.” (Reads the synopsis).
“Sanctuary” appears to be almost parallel to Abbott’s 2018 film “Piercing,” where his character also engages in a relationship with a sex worker with dire consequences, but I’m a simple girl. I see Christopher Abbott and you have my attention.
“Sanctuary” releases in theaters on May 25, 2023.
