The tale of Peter Pan has been adapted in many ways. We saw the boy who never wants to grow up depicted in the animated 1953 film “Peter Pan.” Robin Williams played him all grown up in the 1991 film “Hook,” and then we saw Peter Pan again in the live-action film named after the titular character in 2003. In 2013 Peter Pan turned evil on the TV series Once Upon a Time and in 2014 the character was seen in a live TV play. Now, the story of Peter Pan and Wendy will be told in the upcoming Disney+ film.
A live-action reimagining of the J.M. Barrie novel is coming to the streaming service in April. “Peter Pan & Wendy” is set to introduce Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson), a young girl who is afraid to leave her childhood home behind and meets Peter Pan (Alexander Molony) in the process, the notorious boy who refuses to grow up. The pair travel to Neverland for an adventure with Wendy’s brothers Michael (Jacobi Jupe) and John (Joshua Pickering) and Peter’s trusty, fairy sidekick Tinkerbell (Yara Shahidi).
Jude Law also appears in the David Lowery-directed film as Captain Hook, Jim Gaffigan as Smee, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily, and Alan Tudyk and Molly Parker as Mr. and Ms. Darling. Once Upon a Time may have ruined the idea of Peter Pan for me in the best way because I want my Caption Hook sexy (I’m looking at you Colin O’Donoghue) and I like my Peter evil, but the glimpse of the mermaids in the “Peter Pan and Wendy” official trailer has me interested. The mermaids were always my favorite part of the animated Peter Pan.
“Peter Pan & Wendy” comes to Disney+ on April 28.
