The release of the anticipated Disney live-action “The Little Mermaid” is only a few months away and while we still haven’t received an official trailer the teasers released are slowly rising the excitement by sharing new glimpses of what we can expect when we go under the sea in May.
Just like the animated 1989 film, “The Little Mermaid” follows Ariel (Halle Bailey), a mermaid princess who craves for a life above water. When she meets a handsome prince while visiting the surface Ariel makes a detrimental deal with an evil sea witch which leads to consequences that jeopardize her life and the future of her family.
In the “Wish” teaser for “The Little Mermaid” Ariel can be heard singing “Part of Your World” as she swims through the ocean. Many of these clips we’ve seen before in previous teasers, but there are some new visuals that showcase the vibrant life under the sea along with introducing characters.
The daughters of Triton are seen swimming under the sea which could be a scene for the introduction of Ariel’s sisters.
Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric is shown for the first time in what could be the “Kiss the Girl” number.
Lastly, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula is teased with sinister laughter in the background as her piercing eyes take over the screen.
Directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Art Malik, Noma Dumezweni, and Javier Bardem play Sebastian, Flounder, Scuttle, Sir Grimsby, Queen Selina, and King Triton respectively in the film.
Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” comes to theaters on May 26, 2023.
