The Best 8 On Screen Couples in TV and Film

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s the one day of the year dedicated to being super extra about the loved ones in your lives and while I’ve been single for quite some time I always found Valentine’s Day to be the sweetest holiday. I love to hear about how couples fell in love, seeing all the sweet gestures and overall grand professions of love. It will always make my heart flutter.

So because I don’t have a grand love of my own, yet, I will continue to live vicariously through some of my favorite fictional on-screen couples that give me the feels. Below are my best 8 on-screen couples in TV and Film.

Captain Hook and Emma Swan 

Affectionately deemed Captain Swan, I hopped on the ship back in 2021. As much as I loved Disney I’m surprised it took so long after Once Upon a Time ended to get into the show. I was so oblivious to OUAT that I didn’t know anything about it, especially the details, and how Captain Swan would take over my heart. Captain Hook (played perfectly by Colin O’Donoghue) first appeared in season 2, episode 4 “The Crocodile,” but it wasn’t until the following episode, “The Doctor,” that Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook met. Immediately I felt the chemistry between the pair and I went straight to Google to find out if they ended up together; I couldn’t take the anticipation. Glad to see they got their happy beginning.

April Ludgate and Andy Dwyer

I could watch these two fall in love forever and still get the feels every time! The 2020 pandemic got me into a lot of things I wasn’t into before. I’m not sure why, but I started watching Parks and Recreation and not only did I find the show to be hilarious, but I gravitated towards April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) and Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) the second I saw the spark between them; which was season 2, episode 10 “Hunting Trip.” Parks and Rec fans lovingly say Andy and April are like if a dog and cat fell in love and no greater description fits them. I adore this couple so much.

Edward Cullen and Bella Swan

If you’ve been following this blog since the start in 2011 then you already know I am a HUGE “Twilight” fan and if you don’t know, now you know. A decade after the film franchise has wrapped and I still watch these movies like it’s the first time and will cheese ear to ear whenever Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) interact.

Phil and Claire Dunphy

Anytime I watch Modern Family I laugh and cry by the end. It’s such a heartwarming show that appeals to every aspect of what it means to be family, and, as much as I hate to say this, Claire and Phil are #couplegoals. The two have so much in common, but still are so very different. They really are the ying and yang to each other that makes an ideal couple, ideal parents, and overall entertaining to watch.

Dwayne and Whitley

This is a controversial one because while many hate the idea of Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley (Jasmine Guy), there are a select few with taste that understands their journey as a couple. I’m in the latter. I love A Different World for a number of reasons. It speaks on the black experience in a way that wasn’t performative and actually provided a message with meaning. Many say the series didn’t really begin until season 2, but when the Dwayne and Whitley love story really started in season 3, episode 1 “Strangers on a Plane,” I was hooked in for the ride.

Rio and Beth

When I think of raw CHEMISTRY; Rio (Manny Montana) and Beth (Christina Hendricks) immediately come to mind. I know this pair wasn’t technically a couple in Good Girls, but they made that show such a success. Anytime Rio breathed the fandom went wild, but when he called Beth “Elizabeth” or “Mama” ovaries combust everywhere; mines included.

Janet and Jason

Jason Mendoza (Manny Jacinto) fell for Janet (D’Arcy Carden) -not a girl – because she was nice to him in The Good Place and to be honest shouldn’t that be the root of relationships. The love between Jason and Janet was so pure and will bring a smile to your face no matter what.

Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean Covey

I recently watched the “To All the Boys” franchise again so Peter (Noah Centineo) and LJ (Lana Condor) are fresh on my mind. I love a cliche rom-com troupe; it’s so cute. Peter and LJ were just that…let’s be in a fake relationship to make others jealous and then we accidentally fall in love. This is when Noah became the internet’s boyfriend and Lana represented big for Asian girls. The other films got a little cheesy, but the first film was the best, and that “Lovers” scene was feels all over the place.
