Rian Johnson’s anticipated follow-up to his 2019 hit film “Knives Out” premiered on Friday, December 23 on Netflix. “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” written and directed by Johnson, brings back famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to solve another murder mystery. This time around he’s placed in an actual murder mystery game when the crime occurs and the story picks up from there.
For the past two films, Johnson has brought together two ensemble casts that somehow get better and that’s crazy to think about with the talent he’s assembled so far. Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Lakeith Stanfield, and Christopher Plummer, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, Riki Lindhome, and Noah Segan have appeared in the “Knives Out” universe so far.
It has been reported that Rian Johnson is in the beginning stages of writing the third installment of “Knives Out,” which will premiere on Netflix due to Johnson’s two-picture contract with the streaming service. I saw on Twitter that someone wanted Rachel McAdams in the next “Knives Out” and with everyone else chiming in about their dream cast I started to think about who I’d want to see in the next installment and beyond. Here’s who I’d like to see in “Knives Out 3” and beyond.
Ryan Gosling
If you don’t know Ryan Gosling is extremely funny. He has a cadence to his comedy that is unmatched. He played a drunk private investigator in the 2016 comedy “The Nice Guys,” so I think he could be a good addition as someone who gets thrown in the mix of a murder that needs to be solved.
Meryl Streep
One thing “Knives Out” does well is combine veteran actors with newer ones and I think Meryl can bring a level of sophistication and dark comedy to “Knives Out.” We’ve seen Meryl play so many different roles and I think one in “Knives Out” can only add to her repertoire.
Robert Pattinson
Y’all know Rob has my heart forever with me being a Twihard, but I’d love to see Rob in more jovial roles. If you look at his filmography he has more than proved himself as a serious actor, so I’d like to see him switch things up and play an unhinged hilarious character in “Knives Out.”
Keke Palmer
There’s very little Keke Palmer attempts that she doesn’t do well. We’ve seen her dropped in the hilarious murder mystery 2015-2016 series Scream Queens playing Zayday Williams so I think she’ll fit in the “Knives Out” universe just fine.
Niecy Nash
Speaking of Scream Queens, Niecy Nash’s Denise Hemphill may not have been good in her sleuthing skills, but if Nash can channel that energy into a character that insists on helping Detective Blanc solve the case I think that would be very entertaining.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Did you know Joseph Gordon-Levitt has already been in BOTH “Knives Out” films? In the first film, he played the voice of Detective Hardrock and in “Glass Onion” he was the Hourly Dong voice. I think for the charmed time he should actually show up in the film. It’s only right.
Sophie Turner
During Sophie Turner’s Game of Thrones era, I watched a lot of interviews of hers and listened to all the commentaries she’s featured in on the DVDs. The girl is comedy gold. Her most recent role in Netflix’s 2022 film “Do Revenge” was very small but was one of the most talked about characters. I would love to see Sophie in a murder mystery world.
Billy Magnussen
Billy Magnussen was already placed in a murder mystery element of sorts in the beloved 2018 film “Game Night.” His character might not have been the brightest bulb, but he sure did elevate the comedy in a cast filled with of other funny people. He would bring a good dynamic to an ensemble.
