In a passion project years in the works, Avan Jogia makes his directorial debut in “Door Mouse,” a feature film he also wrote.
The stylistic neo-noir stars Hayley Law as Mouse who has aspirations of being a comic-book creator but instead is stuck working at a gritty burlesque club run by Mama (Famke Janssen). When two of Mouse’s friends and fellow club dancers go missing and the police fail to act in finding them, Mouse and her pal Ugly (Keith Powers) take it upon themselves to find them. During the search, the pair falls deep in the midst of a dark underworld filled with creeps in disturbing masks with men and women barely clothed and chained appearing to be traded for twisted pleasure. Donal Logue, Landon Liboiron, Elizabeth Saunders, Nhi Do, and Emma Campbell also star in the film.
I have no idea where this film is going, but that’s the appeal of the art of film. Films like this always bring about interesting conversations in deciphering what is viewed. If you follow GGB you know I’m a fan and supporter of Avan so I’ll give this film a watch.
“Door Mouse” is out in theaters and on demand on January 13, 2023. Pre-order is available now on iTunes.
