Here we go!
“From Nintendo and Illumination comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.” simply called “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” My level of gaming doesn’t surpass Super Mario Bros. I still have my Super Nintendo in tack and often blow in the cartridges to play a few levels of the iconic game, so I’m amped for this film.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and screenplay by Matthew Fogel, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” follows iconic plumber Mario as he “travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess” in the animated feature. Chris Pratt voices the beloved Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy voices Princess Peach, Charlie Day voices Luigi, Jack Black voices Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad, Seth Rogen voices Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen voices Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson voices Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco voices Spike.
The second the official trailer started and I heard that Mario game music forever ingrained in my brain I beamed with happiness. From this trailer, Chris Pratt isn’t really pulling off the Mario vibe, but this movie brings back so much nostalgia I’ll have to support it.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” comes to theaters on April 7, 2023.
