Hello Wisconsin!
We’ve been to the ’70s (let’s forget the ’80s) and now it’s time to embrace the ’90s in Netflix’s upcoming series That ’90s Show.
From 1998 -2006 That ’70s Show chronicled the lives of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and his friends growing up in 1970s Wisconsin as they hung out in his basement, smoked pot, and navigated adolescence under the guidance of Eric’s strict father Red (Kurtwood Smith) and his loving mother Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp). There was a short-lived spin-off called That ’80s show in 2002 that tried to keep the successful formula of the sitcom going, but it didn’t hold up.
Now it’s 1995 and a new generation is heading into the Forman residence. During the summer Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) visits her grandparents and bonds with a new group of Point Place kids: Nikki (Sam Morelos), Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide), Jay (Mace Coronel), Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan) and Ozzie (Reyn Doi).
Fans of That ’70s Show can rejoice because almost all of the OG’s are reprising their roles. Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, Wilmer Valderrama, and Tommy Chong are back as Jackie Burkhart, Donna Forman (Yay Eric and Donna got married), Michael Kelso, Eric Forman, Fez, and Leo, respectively. Noticeably missing is Danny Masterson who played Steven Hyde in the series. He came under investigation in recent years for sexual assault so it’s a no-brainer why they omitted him.
I adore That ’70s Show (streaming now on Peacock). It’s absolutely hilarious and I’m loyal enough to the series to give this next chapter a chance. That ’90s Show is slated to premiere on Netflix on January 19.
