“None of us are the same people we were 20 years ago.” That goes for the cast of the 1999 beloved film “The Best Man” and for those of us who grew up watching the story of Lance (Morris Chestnut), Harper (Taye Diggs), Julian aka Murch (Harold Perrineau), Quentin (Terrence Howard), Robyn (Sanaa Lathan), Jordan (Nia Long), Shelby (Melissa De Sousa), Candace (Regina Hall), and Mia (Monica Calhoun).
Malcolm D. Lee returns as writer and director along with the original cast in the Peacock Original series The Best Man: The Final Chapters. In the series, viewers “will catch up with Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.”
In the official teaser, the gang travels to a tropical island while Harper gets news that his infamous ‘Unfinished Business” book is being made into a movie. The teaser didn’t give too much away, but I’m fully invested in this film franchise to see how it gets wrapped up.
As mentioned before “The Best Man” premiered in 1999 and followed Lance (Chestnut) getting married to his college sweetheart Mia (Calhoun). The wedding brought together old friends on the brink of a controversial book release from Harper (Diggs) which revealed a salacious secret that almost stopped the wedding. 14 years later, “The Best Man Holiday” brought the friends back together for the holiday season at Lance and Mia’s beautiful home as faith, family, and football became the central themes of the film with new secrets and heartbreaking revelations emerging.
A lifetime of friendship has led to this. The Best Man: The Final Chapters limited series will stream on Peacock Thursday, December 22, 2022.
