When I think back, my love for Horror stems from my childhood. I remember going to the library to check out Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark collection to re-read the stories over and over. I sat from row and center at home to watch new episodes of GoosebumpsAre You Afraid of the Dark, and The Nightmare Room. And I always gravitated toward horror films as a child. So when I think of Halloween I always think of it fondly because it reminds me of the great times in my youth when my love for Horror was growing.

For this Glamberween post, I’m sharing some of the films and TV shows I think of and watch to give me that childhood feeling of falling in love with Halloween.

“Double, Double Toil and Trouble” (1993)
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had such a hold on my childhood. I loved them on Full House and proceeded to watch them in whatever they did. Yes, I had a Michelle Tanner talking doll and cassettes when they had a singing career (OG Mary-Kate and Ashley fans know about that). They had TV movies for days and this gem is one I watch every year. Watch on: Hulu

Are You Afraid of the Dark (1990-1992)
A theme song that really puts you in a spooky mood is from this show. I loved how Are You Afraid of the Dark often had characters that resurfaced like Mr. Sardo and many celebs appeared in this series before they got big like Ryan Gosling, Neve Campbell, Rachel Blanchard, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Melissa Joan Hart, Tia and Tamera Mowry, and more. It was lit! Watch on: NickHits, Paramount+

Goosebumps (1995-1998)
Viewers beware. You’re in for a scare. Watching these episodes back they are not scary at all and the quality of the show is very low budget, but that’s what made it so great. Simple stories that featured creepy monsters or ghosts and it was perfect. Watch on: Netflix

“The Worst Witch” (1986)
I use to think I made this movie up because it’s such a deep memory that no one else seems to know about. “Growing up isn’t easy” especially when you’re a witch struggling to hone in on your powers. Watch on: YouTube

“You’re Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Sleepover Party” (1995)
Now, this TV film isn’t all geared towards Halloween, but one segment always makes me think of Spooky Season and this TV movie has my girls Mary-Kate and Ashley so I loved it. Watch on: YouTube

“Hocus Pocus” (1993)
How could I not love the OG “Hocus Pocus.” I swore I was Sarah Sanderson as a kid and would prop up a broom on the sofa and pretend to fly and sing “Come Little Children.” My heart fills up whenever I watch this movie. Watch on: Disney+
