The disturbing true story of the Broberg family may sound familiar to you. If you watched the 2017 Netflix true crime documentary Abducted in Plain Sight then you know the story of how a “family friend” manipulated the Broberg’s and repeatedly abducted their twelve-year-old daughter Jan in the 1970s. Peacock is coming out with an Original series that dramatizes the events in A Friend of The Family.
Created by Nick Antosca, Jake Lacy plays the “charismatic, obsessed family “friend”” Robert ‘B’ Berchtold who becomes fixated on Mary Ann Broberg (Anna Paquin) and Bob Broberg’s (Colin Hanks) daughter Jan (Hendrix Yancey as the young version and Mckenna Grace as the older version). The Peacock Original will show how the Brobergs “devoted to their faith, family, and community — were utterly unprepared for the sophisticated tactics their neighbor used to exploit their vulnerabilities, drive them apart, and turn their daughter against them. This is the story of how their lives were permanently altered — and how they survived.”
A Friend of The Family streams on Peacock on October 6.
