HBO is proving they indeed can make lightning strike twice with another adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s medieval fantasy universe. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, with the first book published in 1996, inspired the global phenomenon Game of Thrones which ran on HBO from 2011 -2019. House of the Dragon is the first spin-off series for Game of Thrones and is based on the 2018 Martin book “Fire and Blood,” centered around House Targaryen.

The premiere episode of House of the Dragon aired Sunday, August 21 on HBO and HBO Max, and just like that GOT Sundays returned, with a fiery twist. House of the Dragon broke records as the highest-rated series ever for HBO and in week 2 of the series viewership went up 2% from the premiere episode to 10.2 million viewers. (I reviewed the premiere episode of House of the Dragon via Popternative and you can read it HERE.)

House of the Dragon has already been renewed for season 2 so the momentum for the success of the show will only grow. I’m still waiting for that big “OMG” moment to really have me hooked because right now it’s just something to watch on Sundays to understand the memes floating around on social media.

New episodes of House of the Dragon air on Sundays at 9 pm ET on HBO and HBO Max.
