Barbie Ferreira Reveals Via Social Media She Won’t Be Returning To ‘Euphoria’ In Season 3

Sad news for fans of HBO’s Euphoria. Our Kitten Kween is officially retiring. Barbie Ferreira has announced she won’t be returning to the wildly popular series for season three.

Via Instagram Stories, Ferreira shared art of her character drawn by her now former co-star Hunter Schafer with text announcing her departure. “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote. Ferreira added, “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Ferreira played Katherine Hernandez aka Kat for two seasons. At first, she was a timid teen who wrote fan fiction about Captain Swan and One Direction on Tumblr, but soon stepped into her sexuality and womanhood and became a dominatrix cam girl in season one. In season two, however, Kat was in a relationship with Ethan (Austin Abrams) while struggling yet again with her identity and ended up gaslighting Ethan into a breakup and playing the background in other characters’ plots throughout the season.

News of Barbie Ferreira leaving the show probably won’t come as a shock to some fans. They expressed their dismay for the lack of Barbie’s screen time and blamed it on Euphoria creator and writer Sam Levinson. Rumors say the pair allegedly were at odds in the direction her character’s storyline was going resulting in her having fewer scenes in season two. Of course, that’s all speculation and the true reason for Barbie’s departure is known only to her.
