‘Orphan: First Kill’ Is Just As Comically Devious As Its Predecessor, ‘Orphan’ [REVIEW]

If you saw “Orphan” back in 2009, or even for the first time recently, then you know how unintentionally hilarious and delightfully scary the film was. Isabelle Fuhrman starred as Esther, an innocent-looking orphaned child who was revealed to be Leena Klammer, a grown woman with a rare disorder that causes dwarfism and stunts her appearance to look youthful forever. Leena used her disorder to con and kill her way through families, but her origins were a mystery until the prequel film premiered on streaming this weekend.

In “Orphan: First Kill,” Esther (Fuhrman) travels to America after escaping an Estonian psychiatric facility and impersonates the missing daughter of the Albright family. Tricia (Julia Stiles), the matriarch of the family, seems to be the first one to realize something is off with her “daughter” and begins to act accordingly but Esther isn’t going down without a fight. Directed by William Brent Bell with screenplay by David Coggeshall; Rossif Sutherland, Matthew Finlan, and Hiro Kanagawa all appear in “Orphan: First Kill” in select theaters now and streaming on Paramount+.
