Anais Lee and Mirabelle Lee have been acting since the tender age of 3 years old when they booked their first role in the 2013 film “Blood Ties” playing opposite Zoe Saldana. Since then they have been navigating the industry booking roles in shows like 9-1-1, The Upshaws, El Deafo, and The Baby-Sitters Club and films like “Slapface” and “The Sun Is Also a Star.” Working in Hollywood while handling rejection can be a challenging feat, but the Lee twins have been able to maintain an unshakeable bond that celebrates each wins the girls get together or apart.
Hollywood is notoriously known for being a difficult industry to break into, so you can imagine how hard it may be to navigate when you go out for roles against someone with literally the same face as you. In one instance, a decision between Anais and Mirabelle for a role was chosen by flipping a coin, but these moments only make their sisterhood stronger. “We recognize that we are competing against each other, but even though, we actually had a conversation about this the other day, and even though we’re like working for ourselves to book the role. If Mirabelle books it I’m not going to be mad or be like ‘oh dang, I didn’t book it.’ I’m glad she booked it as well because she’s my sister and my mom always says a win for one is a win for all. So if one of us wins it, it’s a win for the entire family,” Anais shared. “If there’s a number one slot who I’d want to get the role obviously me, but number two is Anais,” Mirabelle added with a laugh.
As the girls are still working their way through the industry they use advice from their mom to get them through it. “Most memorable advice is just from my mom. She gives the best pep talks ever. She said this industry is 99% no’s but that one yes can change everything and I really think about that because this industry is really tough. You could get an audition for a role, you really like that role, you get a call back so you really think you’re going to book it. You get super worked up about it cause you really want this role and then you don’t get it and it can be really tough sometimes, but you just have to remember that not every role is for you and your role is out there and it will come to you,” Anais said.
Mirabelle expressed similar sentiments saying, “The best advice I’ve ever been given is honestly to just, like after you do that audition or do that call back forget about it. I find myself getting hung up on some of these auditions or callbacks that I do and it only just hurts me mentally because it’s painful. I can’t stay up at night thinking about it. I just have to forget about it and move on with life and whatever happens, happens.”
Up next, Anais and Mirabelle have an exciting project in development they can’t talk about yet but say it’s a “dream project” so be on the lookout for that.
